-Peten provincia al norte de Guatemala, con más de 2000 sitios
arqueológicos; en el bosque tropical de Tikal habitan 333 especies
de pájaros y 54 de mamíferos (incluyendo los jaguares).
-Capital departamental Flores, (a unos 50 minutos en coche del hotel
Gucumatz) es una pequeña isla en el lago de Peten Itza La población
de flores (unas 2000 personas).
-Peten Itza el segundo lago más grande de Guatemala, cubre 99
km2.
-La localidad San José en la costa del lago Peten Itza, tiene
las playas más bellas de dicha área, y junto a estas el

-San Jose posee escuela de español y centro de estudio de idiomas
mayas.
-Se puede llegar a los pueblos de San José, San Pedro o a el

-El sitio arqueológico de San José Motul esta a pocos
kilómetros del hotel gucumatz, en la reserva de Bio Itza. Se
sabe muy poco de este sitio arqueológico del período Clásico
Maya; La reserva consta de 16 km2, (un excelente sitio para escalar).
-Es tanta la vegetación en Peten y Tikal que es llamada el tercer
pulmón del mundo.
-El Parque Nacional de Tikal en la provincia de Peten, cubre 550 km2.
Dentro de 16 km2 se encuentran ruinas de esta antigua ciudad maya, con
más de 3000 estructuras descubiertas.
- La ciudad Maya de Tikal en Peten fue fundada en 600 a. C. vivió
la gloria de la edad dorada en el período Clásico Maya
de 300 – 900 d. C.

En la Gran Plaza, están los Templos II y el del Gran Jaguar junto
a una cantidad de estelas y altares. Cerca el Templo IV mide 65 metros
de altura. La Gran Pirámide del Mundo Perdido, que fue construida
de 600 d. C., ideal para apreciar un bello atardecer.

-Petén province in northern Guatemala has more than 2000 arqueological
sites ; in the tropica forest of Tikal, alone, there are 333 species
of birds and 54 of mammals (including jaguars).
-The capital of the region is Flores(some 40 mins by car from Gucumatz
Hotel ).It is a small island in lake Petén Itzá with a
population of about 2000 in habitants.
-Lake Petén Itzá, itself, is the second largest lake in

away from Gucumatz Hotel in the Bio Itzá reserve. Little is known
about this site from the Classic Mayan period; the reserve covers 16
kms2 and is an excellent place for hiking.
-The vegetation is so abundant in the area surrounding Tikal that it
is known as the World´s third lung.
